International networking

Zambia
National AIDS Network Secretariat representative
and a large number of member/associate member
organizations attended the 2002 AIDS conference
held in Barcelona Spain 7- 12th July,
2002. The
conference was attended by over 15,000 people
from all over the world representing Government,
private sector and civil society. The conference
noted among other things commendable work being
done by various stakeholders to fight the disease.
It was emphasized among other things that care,
support and prevention are inseparable in
the fight against HIV/AIDS and should be implemented
as such.

The network through Mrs E.N.Mataka, Chairperson of the Liaison Committee, attended
the United Nations General Assembly Special Session
on children
Regional networking The
Network continued to network with its Southern Africa
region neighbours and other African countries by
virtue of being a member and country representative
of the Southern African Network of AIDS Service
Organizations (SANASO) headquartered in Harare,
Zimbabwe, viz:-.
- The network co-ordinator Mr L. Banda
attended a meeting of African regional AIDS service
organizations held in Pretoria 17 – 19th
May, 2002. The meeting was convened and sponsored
by UNDP. The participants included representatives from Regional African networks of Eastern,
Western, Central, Southern and Northern Africa
including the Economic Commission of Africa (ECA).
The main objective of the meeting was sharing
of information, experiences and concerns in the
fight against HIV/AIDS. UNDP also exposed the
participants to a new concept they are promoting
called “new leadership for change in the
fight against HIV/AIDS”.
- The Network Programme Officer and a
representative from Family Health Trust (FHT),
a member of ZNAN attended a workshop organized
by STEPS for the Future based in South Africa in partnership with SANASO. The objective
of the workshop was to impart skills on filming
and the use of videos in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The workshop was held in Johannesburg South Africa.
National networking:
- ZNAN management attended the one day
SAT consultative meeting.
- Invited and attended the Consultative
Group (CG) preparatory meetings organized by the
Ministry of finance and National Planning.
- Attended the T.B Conference

Participated in the preparation of a country
proposal for funding to the Global fund
