Visit to Chikankata a Children
in Need Network (CHIN) project
The information sharing visit was
undertaken during the first week of October, 2002
and it was in partnership with the Network member
Children in Need Network (CHIN). The exchange visit
attracted 23 participants from organisations within
Lusaka working in the area of HIV/AIDS mitigation
and with Orphans and Vulnerable Children. The exchange
visit was for two days.
(i) Background to the exchange visit.
The Executive Director for CHIN Mr
Hyigins Mbulo gave the background to the exchange
visit by highlighting the following:-
Zambia continues to face a crisis
of massive proportions due to HIV/AIDS, Poverty and
a generally a decline economy. The high prevalence
level of HIV/AIDS has adversely impacted the socio
economic development of the country, leaving a large
number of children orphaned. It has become evident
that this undesired state of affairs calls for concerted
effort from various stakeholders.
It is against this background that
several organisations have instituted interventions
aimed at mitigating this dire situation. The Zambia
National AIDS Network (ZNAN) is an organisation that
was instituted with a mandate to facilitate Networking
among such organisations. In line with the mandate,
ZNAN in collaboration with CHIN is hosting the information
sharing exercise for HIV/AIDS and OVC service organisations.
The objective of the exercise is to enhance liaison,
collaboration and co-ordination among the participating
service organisations.
(ii) Objectives of the visit
- To avail the participants an opportunity to share
information and experiences with specific references
to HIV/AIDS mitigation, OVC and community involvement
- To enhance capacities of the participants by imparting
skills in programming community driven responses
to the HIV/AIDS situation and OVC care
- To facilitate enhanced collaboration and networking
by bringing together different players in the area
of HIV/AIDS mitigation and OVC .
The following activities were carried
out during the course of the two days exchange visit.
